TOPSoccer

TOPSoccer: “The Outreach Program for Soccer” is designed for school-aged

children with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. The program helps serve the

physical and social needs of our community’s children who want to participate

in fun activities, but who, because of their disabilities, may feel left out of

traditional sports programs. This summer season of soccer training and games

is taught by caring adult and high school volunteers. Teams are divided based

on the age and ability of participants attending on a given day.

4 TOPSoccer is a national program administered locally through the EPYSA

      (Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association).

4 Harleysville Soccer Association is one of a select number of local

     organizations that offers such a program; not every club has provided.

    this valuable and rewarding opportunity to its community at large.

4 The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning the game

    of Soccer to any boy or girl who has a mental/emotional/developmental

    or physical disability.

4 The Harleysville TOPSoccer program is open to any child between the

    ages of 4-19 (as of 7/31).

4 This program is administered by caring adults and committed ’peer

     buddies’ who work closely to assist and train the players.

4 Field Trainers have advanced EPYSA coaching designations and/or

     extensive experience in soccer.

4 Season typically runs from July 12th through ’Soccer Day’

   (2nd week of September), meets Friday nights from 6:00-7:15 pm.

TOPSoccer Peer Buddies Needed

To help ensure the success of this year’s TOPSoccer program, we are looking for dedicated PEER BUDDIES to help out at the games. By volunteering a few hours of your time, you can make a real difference to each and every TOPSoccer player on the field. The hours you can contribute will be well spent, and utterly appreciated.

Dear Coach Cameron and Coach Debbie,

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to both of you for all of your time, effort and caring that the two of you put into this season. In some ways this has been the best season yet that Cynthia and Scotty have had with TOPSoccer, not that the other seasons were not good (they were!). But, I saw my children connected, engaged and empowered in a way that I had not seen in previous seasons. They are also seeing friends from past seasons and I dare say, feeling a sense of security, as a result.

Additionally, if you could please let the peer buddies know that although they did not have much time with the children, their contribution was felt. Cynthia and Scotty always informed me when Friday was coming so that I would not "forget" to take them to soccer. I am so grateful that they gave so much of themselves from the time they dedicated to the compassionate way I saw them nurture all of these special children.

I tell everyone I know how wonderful this program is and how blessed, I feel, that my children are fortunate enough to have the TOPSoccer program available to them.
